Public practice

Read the examples, answer the original tasks and reveal model answers on this page. No account or microphone is needed for these text-based exercises.

Personalized AI practice

New users complete a short assessment, sign in and consent to AI text processing. Usage allowances depend on the current plan; AI feedback can be wrong.

Who is this practice for?

For independent learners who want to build and vary spoken answers to everyday prompts. The public tasks can be spoken aloud; AI feedback uses text and does not score pronunciation, tones or pauses.

Quick answer

MandarinGo provides 7 original questions on this page: 3 text questions and 4 listening questions using 2 synthesized Mandarin audio clip(s). Public questions, answers, explanations, transcripts and pinyin need no sign-in. Chinese conversation practice can start without a partner: choose a role, answer a concrete question aloud, add a reason and ask a follow-up question. MandarinGo provides feedback on the text of your response. Text feedback does not measure pronunciation, tones or pauses; microphone input depends on your browser and device.

Practise with original questions

Choose one answer per question, then check the explanations. Original exercises, not an official exam or an AI assessment.

These exercises run in your browser. Answers are not sent to the AI service or saved to your account. Without JavaScript, open each answer below.

Listen, understand and shadow

Playable synthesized Mandarin audio, created from our original scripts. Not a human recording or an official exam. Listen before opening the transcript; repeat using the player’s speed controls when available.

您好,我想要一杯热拿铁,不加糖,带走。好的,您需要大杯还是小杯?小杯就好,谢谢。

Nín hǎo, wǒ xiǎng yào yì bēi rè nátiě, bù jiā táng, dàizǒu. Hǎo de, nín xūyào dà bēi háishi xiǎo bēi? Xiǎo bēi jiù hǎo, xièxie.

Hello, I would like a hot latte, no sugar, to go. Certainly. Would you like a large or a small? A small is fine, thank you.

Shadow this sentence

我想要一杯热拿铁,不加糖,带走。

Listening cues and practice method

Group the request into drink, sugar preference and takeaway. Answer 大杯还是小杯 directly with the cup size. One synthesized voice reads both roles; the transcript marks the turns through their wording.

改约与确认

Listen once without the transcript, then repeat at 0.75× and shadow the sentence. Return to 1× to check natural timing.

Transcript, pinyin and English meaning

不好意思,我周五下午临时有事。我们能改到周六上午十点吗?可以,还是在地铁站东门见。好的,周六十点,东门见。

Bù hǎoyìsi, wǒ zhōuwǔ xiàwǔ línshí yǒu shì. Wǒmen néng gǎi dào zhōuliù shàngwǔ shí diǎn ma? Kěyǐ, háishi zài dìtiězhàn dōngmén jiàn. Hǎo de, zhōuliù shí diǎn, dōngmén jiàn.

Sorry, something has come up on Friday afternoon. Could we move it to ten on Saturday morning? Yes, let us still meet at the east entrance of the metro station. Great, Saturday at ten, east entrance.

Shadow this sentence

不好意思,我们能改到周六上午十点吗?

Listening cues and practice method

Give the reason for changing the appointment, propose a specific new time, then repeat the final time and place. Distinguish the old arrangement from the confirmed replacement.

You can check one question at a time, or answer every question and check the complete set. Retry clears only incorrect choices.

1. 店员问:“您要热的还是冰的?”你想要热咖啡。
Answer and explanation

热的,谢谢。

The assistant asks you to choose hot or iced. 热的,谢谢 directly selects hot. The other replies mention being at home or the distance to a café, so they do not answer the question.

2. 朋友说:“周末我想骑车。”哪句能自然继续对话?
Answer and explanation

你打算去哪儿骑?

A question about where your friend plans to cycle naturally continues the conversation. The other choices discuss character strokes or the word “bicycle” rather than the weekend plan.

3. 你没听清会议时间,怎样请求对方重复?
Answer and explanation

不好意思,会议是几点?请再说一遍。

State the information you missed and politely ask for repetition. Option A asks the meeting time again. B closes a conversation and C describes a habit. This task checks an appropriate response, not pronunciation.

4. 听“咖啡店点单”:客人要怎样的饮品?

Listening practice: 咖啡店点单

Answer and explanation

热拿铁,不加糖

The opening specifies both 热拿铁, a hot latte, and 不加糖, no sugar. Check temperature, drink and sugar separately. The other options change the drink or add ice and sugar.

5. 听“咖啡店点单”:店员追问杯型,客人如何回答?

Listening practice: 咖啡店点单

Answer and explanation

小杯就好,谢谢。

The assistant offers a large or small cup, and the customer chooses 小杯. 小杯就好,谢谢 answers that choice politely. The other options belong to scheduling or directions, not ordering a drink.

6. 听“改约与确认”:最终约定的时间是?

Listening practice: 改约与确认

Answer and explanation

周六上午十点

Friday afternoon is the old arrangement that no longer works. The proposed and confirmed replacement is Saturday at ten in the morning. Use the final confirmed time when a conversation changes an appointment.

7. 听“改约与确认”:地点是否改变?

Listening practice: 改约与确认

Answer and explanation

仍在地铁站东门

还是在地铁站东门见 means the meeting place remains the east entrance of the metro station. The final 东门见 confirms it. Neither a different shop entrance nor an unspecified location is supported.

Try it with a real sentence

Chinese example

我想要一碗面,不要辣。

Pinyin
Wǒ xiǎng yào yì wǎn miàn, bú yào là.
Meaning
I would like a bowl of noodles, not spicy.
Why it works
我想要 states a request; 一碗 gives the quantity; 不要辣 adds a preference. Replace the food or preference to practise the same intent.

Your turn

Order a bowl of noodles and ask for it not to be spicy. Say the sentence, then repeat without looking.

Show answer and explanation

我想要一碗面,不要辣。

我想要 states a request; 一碗 gives the quantity; 不要辣 adds a preference. Replace the food or preference to practise the same intent.

Read the explanation, hide the answer, then produce a new sentence of your own.

Start speaking practice

Original practice examples, not official exam questions. AI feedback can make mistakes. New learners complete a short assessment and sign in before AI practice.

Use prompts with a clear role

Practise situations such as ordering food, asking for directions, introducing a plan or explaining a preference. A clear role and goal make vocabulary easier to retrieve than an open request to ‘speak Chinese’.

Build answers in layers

Start with one complete sentence. Add a reason, detail or follow-up question only after the first sentence is stable. This creates reliable building blocks and prevents fluency practice from becoming memorized monologues.

Focus feedback on evidence

Text-based AI can comment on vocabulary, grammar and relevance when a transcript is available. Pronunciation scores require real audio evidence and should not be invented from text alone. Treat automated feedback as guidance, not certification.

Repeat with variation

Answer the same intent with a different time, place or opinion. Variation tests whether you own the structure. Save recurring grammar gaps for later review rather than trying to fix every hesitation at once.

Practice checklist and model answers

  2. Task

A friend asks 周末你想做什么?为什么? Reply and continue the conversation.

    One possible answer

QUESTIONS

Before you begin

Can I practise without a conversation partner?

Yes. Choose a role, answer one short prompt aloud, then repeat with a different food, time or preference. The example above works without a microphone. MandarinGo’s AI exercises require sign-in and consent; pronunciation claims need actual audio evidence.

Is MandarinGo an official HSK exam provider?

No. MandarinGo uses HSK levels to organize learning difficulty. Its exercises and recommendations are educational practice, not official exam papers, scores or certification.
