How to learn Chinese with a practical weekly system

Chinese becomes manageable when each study session has one clear job. A useful routine combines understandable input, active recall, short output and scheduled review instead of relying on long, irregular study blocks.

Learning tools

Choose a realistic starting point

Use a short level assessment, then begin where at least part of the material feels familiar. If every sentence is opaque, move down a level. If you answer almost everything without thinking, move up. A good starting level leaves enough difficulty to learn without turning each question into a translation exercise.

Practice all four learning actions

Read and listen to a short prompt, retrieve an answer, produce a sentence of your own, and revisit mistakes. These actions train recognition and recall together. Ten focused minutes on most days is usually more useful than a single long session that you cannot repeat.

Review mistakes on a schedule

Save only mistakes that reveal a useful gap. Retry them after one day, three days and seven days. A correct answer should advance the review interval; another mistake should keep the item active. This makes review a learning system rather than an archive.

Use AI feedback carefully

AI can generate practice and explain writing, but it can be wrong. Check surprising claims, avoid sensitive information, and treat feedback as a prompt to notice grammar and word choice—not as an official score or certificate.

QUESTIONS

Before you begin

Is MandarinGo an official HSK exam provider?

No. MandarinGo uses HSK levels to organize learning difficulty. Its exercises and recommendations are educational practice, not official exam papers, scores or certification.

Can beginners use these guides?

Yes. Start with HSK 1 or the free level assessment. Pinyin, translations and explanations help beginners understand each step before moving to harder material.
